Sustainable Travel in Colorado Springs

Sustainable Travel in Colorado?

In a world where we're becoming more conscious and sustainable in our travel, it's inspiring to find places that are doing more than just talking the talk. Here at Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort, sustainability isn’t a buzzword, it’s a way of life. Nestled at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, our locally owned, bike-friendly lodge is committed to reducing our environmental impact while creating unforgettable adventures for our guests.

Whether you're rolling in for a weekend ride or planning a longer escape, here’s how we’re working every day to make travel more sustainable and how you can participate in sustainable travel!

Second Hand Renovations

We believe in giving old things a new purpose. From reclaimed wood to repurposed decor made from vintage bicycle parts, much of what you see at the Lodge has been carefully sourced with intention. We often shop at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore, where we find unique, gently used materials to use in our room renovations and common spaces. It's all part of our mission to reduce waste and keep building supplies out of the landfill.

Pedal-Powered Lifestyle

As a bicycle resort, we’re big believers in human-powered travel. Guests are encouraged to explore the surrounding area, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, and the Garden of the Gods, by bike. Our fleet bikes are 3 speed analogue bikes perfect for riding on flat roads & trails. But if riding an analogue bike sounds like too much work, we recommend riding an ebike, rentals are available from Incline Bikes. With direct access to some of Colorado’s best trails, you can park your car for the weekend and enjoy your stay on two wheels. Fewer emissions, more fresh air. It’s a win-win.

Reducing Waste

We’re always looking for ways to cut down on single-use plastics and unnecessary waste. That’s why we’ve switched to refillable soap pumps in all bathrooms, no more tiny plastic toiletry bottles! At our espresso bar, we offer our guests their beverage in a mug, or we’ll make your drink your favorite coffee tumbler.

Traditional housekeeping can waste a lot of water and energy. That’s why we provide housekeeping upon request, with automatic service every third day for longer stays. It’s a small change with a big impact, helping us conserve natural resources while still offering comfort and cleanliness for our guests.

Community Awareness

We’re proud to be a part of the vibrant Colorado Springs outdoor and cycling community, and we regularly host events, fundraisers, and share nonprofits that support local conservation efforts and trail maintenance. Staying at the Buffalo means you’re also supporting local nonprofits and small business.

Travel with Purpose

Sustainable travel is an easy option in Colorado Springs without sacrificing comfort. At the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort, we’ve made it our mission to protect the beauty of our natural surroundings while offering an unforgettable experience for every guest. So the next time you plan your adventure, think green, travel by bike, and stay somewhere that shares your values.
