Space Symposium Week at the Lodge

by Torie Giffin, owner

This week the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort becomes a base camp for space adventures as we along with hotels throughout Colorado Springs fill up with guests from around the world attending the 39th Annual International Space Symposium. While the event takes place every Spring at the Broadmoor and Cheyenne Mountain Resorts & Convention Centers, we are also proud to also host guests here at the lodge from the international space and defense community.

The lodge is adorned with space decor, we have maps and insider tips about the event and we offer free daily 'Space Shuttles' in our team van to and from the Broadmoor, located just 6 miles away. This year the matriarch of our family 'Grammy Nancy' will be running our 'Space Shuttle' van.

So how does a 'bicycle resort' come to attract Space Symposium guests? Whether you're a bicyclist or not, most people in general are attracted to our location because it is less than a half mile from Garden of the Gods, rated one of the top parks in the U.S. and World on Trip Advisor, and we're also nestled between the top Colorado tourist towns Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs for plenty of great dining and activities. So attendees wanting to have an experience and adventure beyond the symposium can find close proximity to top tourist destinations and bike trails from here. Our guests love our place! By the way, local Gazette newspaper readers ranked the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort silver as the 2nd most popular hotel in the area just behind the Broadmoor last year!

We also offer something truly unique, more than a just a cozy, cute, bicycle-themed room to rest your head. Our family-owned lodge property is always a buzz of activity from our cool Watering Hole Bar in the Lodge featuring only Colorado Craft Beer, Wine and Spirits, to our outdoor patio with fire pits, to free bicycles for guest use to roam around the area. We have live music at the lodge five days a week Wednesday thru Sunday and the other nights we have a guided hike on Monday night and yoga in the lodge and the Manitou Spokes bike rides on Tuesday night. In addition to all of that, we are huge fans of the Space Symposium and completely geek out over the opportunity to host guests coming for the event, because while we've only owned the lodge for 8 years, we have been volunteering and attending the the Space Symposium even longer. The Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort kids (now 22, 20 and 16) have been fascinated and inspired by space and have attended the Space Symposium for over a decade, about half their lives.

Here are pictures of them from 2015 (top) and then today Sunday, March 7, 2024 (bottom) volunteering at at the Broadmoor to put attendee welcome bags together.

We'd like to wish a warm special welcome if you're one of our guests staying here for the Space Symposium and if you're not, you now know where to come to hang out with cool space people in town this week! Also if you want to know more about volunteering for the Space Symposium be sure to check out the Space Foundation Discovery Center here in Colorado Springs for great opportunities at the Symposium and year round.

The date is set for the 40th Space Symposium next year April 7-10, 2025, so reserve early and book direct at Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort to join us next year.
